Ice Block is a fantastic spell because it allows you to become immune, dropping all debuffs and rendering you unkillable. Mage has Dragon's Breath which causes mobs to be disoriented. They are usually used to stop otherwise uninterruptable spells and skills.
Stops refer to AoE abilities that cause mobs to stop their casts. Some dungeons have curses, so the ability to remove them is useful for these dungeons. Mages are able to Remove Curses from themselves and allies. This means you hardcast a lot, which can be frustrating in hectic situations like Mythic+. Sun King's Blessing has a profound effect on the playstyle of the class and is too powerful to avoid. The biggest issue with Fire Mage is the lack of options that avoid Sun King's Blessing. Fire takes a while to get heated up, so it is not recommended on low keys but will do well as the health of targets goes up with the key level. Fire is a great pick for Mythic+, so long as you have a target sturdy enough to Mastery: Ignite cleave off of and a competent tank. In higher keys, Fire Mage is a strong option due to its decent single target, strong cleave, high burst, and cheat death with Cauterize.
